A Key Solution for Reducing CO₂ Emissions

The Global Challenge

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) and other greenhouse gas emissions are major contributors to climate change. Each year, the world emits over 36 billion tonnes of CO₂, and this number continues to rise. Recognising the urgency, governments worldwide have set ambitious decarbonisation targets to mitigate environmental damage.

Achieving these targets requires a range of solutions, from rewilding to Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) a proven technology capable of significantly reducing CO₂ emissions at scale.

Nature has been capturing CO₂ for millions of years through natural processes. In recent decades, humans have developed technologies to replicate and scale this process. The challenge now is to expand these technologies to climate-relevant levels—locking up CO₂ emissions, restoring climate balance, and safeguarding our planet’s future.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that to keep global warming below 2°C, we must eliminate emissions and remove 2 to 10 billion tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere annually by 2050. Experts widely agree that CCS is one of the most critical technologies for addressing climate change.

If deployed at scale, it can significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions. The International Energy Agency (IEA) states that climate targets—including those in the Paris Agreement—cannot be achieved without widespread CCS adoption in power generation and carbon-intensive industries.

The Solution

Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) is a critical tool in the fight against climate change, offering a practical and scalable way to reduce industrial CO₂ emissions. While renewable energy and efficiency improvements play a key role in decarbonisation, CCS is essential for industries where emissions are unavoidable, such as cement, steel, and chemicals.

At Carbon Catalyst, we provide end-to-end CCS solutions that enable businesses to capture, transport, and store CO₂ safely and permanently underground. By integrating advanced subsurface expertise, robust commercial frameworks, and regulatory alignment, we develop cost-effective, large-scale storage projects that help industries meet net-zero commitments.

As CCS moves beyond early-stage projects into large-scale commercial deployment, Carbon Catalyst is leading the way in building a viable, long-term carbon management infrastructure. Our projects not only mitigate emissions but also enable industries to transition toward a low-carbon future without compromising economic growth.

By turning ambition into action, we are making CCS a reality—helping businesses, economies, and the planet move toward a more sustainable future.

What is Carbon Capture (CCS)?

CCS is the process of capturing CO₂ from power generation and industrial activities and permanently storing it deep underground, preventing it from being released into the atmosphere. These technologies have the potential to dramatically reduce CO₂ emissions from energy and industrial systems.

CCS can also involve directly or indirectly removing CO₂ from the atmosphere, making it a key tool in the fight against climate change.
