Successful completion of the Poseidon CO₂ injection test!

Poseidon offshore CO₂ Injection Test Programme has now concluded

We’re pleased to confirm the successful completion of the Poseidon CO₂ injection test, with the ERDA mobile injection rig now off location and fully demobilised. This UK-first operation marks a major milestone in advancing offshore carbon storage.

✅ 15 full injection cycles completed
✅ Stable injection achieved across gaseous, supercritical and liquid phases
✅ Injection at commercial levels (1 Mtpa), constrained only by topside facilities
✅ Zero safety or environmental incidents

Early results are now under detailed analysis, however initial indications support a compelling commercial case for repurposing depleted gas reservoirs for CO₂ storage.

A huge thank you to our operator, Perenco, lead contractors, Petrodec and SLB, and all our supply chain contractors for delivering a safe and efficient programme and for helping move UK CCS capability forward with this first-of-its-kind offshore trial.

More thanks go to the wider CCS community and stakeholders including Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, North Sea Transition Authority and Health and Safety Executive for driving the UK’s energy transition.
